手:“Well, at least it makes me more prepared for life. I mean, where I come from, you learn three things by the time you’re ten―how to deal with drunks, how to lose money at a casino, and how to pretend you don’t see illegal stuff happening.”
Right. And where I grew up, you learn how to shovel snow, how to apologize unnecessarily, and how to survive without sunlight for six months.”
Leo
:“Ah, the true Midwestern tragedy―endless winters and unshakable politeness.”
Exactly. You know, when you bump into someone in the Twin Cities, it’s always a competition to see who can apologize first. ‘Oh, I’m sorry!’ ‘No, I’m sorry!’ ‘No, really, I insist, I’m sorrier!’”
In my town, if you bump into someone, they either ignore you or try to fight you.”
Sounds like a charming place to grow up.”
Leo耸耸肩,笑得随意又坦然:“At least it builds character.”
